When researchers study internal monologue (the "voice in your head" when you're thinking silently), they've found that your brain can process and "speak" internally way faster than you can actually speak out loud or type.
Typical ranges are something like:
400–800 words per minute in internal monologue
(Some sources even push it a little higher, especially when you're stressed, excited, or brainstorming.)
Compare that to:
Talking out loud: 120–160 wpm
Typing: 40–100 wpm
Meaning:
Your brain is literally thinking 3x to 8x faster than your mouth or hands can realistically output.— o3
Typing speed is much slower than the voice in your head.
This is why I’d rather use voice-to-text for journaling.
Do you journal daily? Is it an aspiration?
What’s your process?
Let me know in the comments below.
